Ukes for the Cure' Benefit Event at Threadgill's North

On Tuesday evening, October 23rd, the Austin Ukulele Society (AUS) hosted its annual 'Ukes for the Cure' benefit event at Threadgill's North. The event aimed to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research through music and camaraderie.

The evening kicked off with a special announcement by AUS member Bob, who revealed that their group would be performing an eternal YouTube ukulele standard - 'Build Me Up Buttercup'. With his special arrangement of the song, they effortlessly sounded great even on the third rendition. The event drew in around 40 members from the Austin Ukulele Society, all of whom were thrilled to perform and enjoy the evening.

The AUS members would like to extend their gratitude to Jen Brown for handling the behind-the-scenes details that made the event a success. They also thanked Walter Minkel for spreading the word and keeping everyone updated. Lyda Guz designed beautiful posters and fantastic t-shirts, while Brady Woodall helped find a new venue after they lost their original spot.

The evening's performers included Ray Carr, Tim Keough, George Traugott, Lisa Alexander of the Pine Beetles, Kendra Korshak, Donna Rich of The Lunettes, Frank Meyer, Kathy Murray, Bill 'Monster' Jones, and all members of the Austin Ukulele Society Ensemble. AUS member Mike Wassung's niece, Kasia Wassung, was instrumental in pitching the idea for the fundraiser.

As some may know, Mike lost his sister Pam to breast cancer several years ago, making this event especially meaningful for him. He expressed deep gratitude to everyone who participated and made it possible.

The 'Ukes for the Cure' benefit event proved to be a huge success, with a great turnout, lots of energy, and an appreciative audience. The Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas will receive a generous donation of $600 thanks to the generosity of attendees. Overall, the evening was filled with music, fun, and a sense of community, all for a great cause.
